The Dreaded Pink Eye

"Pink Eye" is a general term given to a viral or bacterial infection of the eye.  There are many causes for pink eye ranging from poor hygiene and poor hand washing, to contact with someone who already has pink eye.

The medical term for pink eye is called conjunctivitis. Conjunctivitis comes in three varieties: Bacterial, Viral and Allergic

Bacterial conjunctivitis, caused by a bacterial injection, mostly affects infants, toddlers and young children.  This type of infection is most commonly treated used topical antibiotic eye drops for several days.  Signs include mucous discharge and/or crusting of the eyelids, a "pink eye" in one or both eyes, and general eye discomfort.
